Scandia sells 51% more canned meat

29.05.2006, 00:00 9

Sibiu-based canned meat producer Scandia announced it had seen its sales grow by 51% in terms of volume and by 44% in terms of value in the first quarter against the similar period of 2005. "The Romanian pate market is very competitive and rich in offers, with over 60 brands and over 750 different articles for sale. Last year saw no relevant differences in terms of the purchasing/ consumption frequency or of the packaging/weight. The continuous growth of the market is due to a great extent to the growth in consumption in general. The differences could be seen in the increasingly marked division of the market into two segments: premium and economic," stated Sorin Bozdog, commercial manager of Scandia Romana. Last year, the company posted a turnover worth 38 million euros, a 76% increase against 2004. According to information provided by the company, Scandia had an over 56% market share in terms of volume in November last year and a more than 55% share in terms of value. The company''s market share grew to 57.5% in the first quarter of 2006. "We tried to follow the increasingly stronger trend of dividing the market into two big segments. Although Bucegi pate accounts for some 31% of our market share, the other brands, such as Sibiu pate, Poiana pate and Sadu pate also had a significant contribution to achieving this market value," Bozdog specified.
