SIAB 2005: an over 20m euro shopping opportunity

18.10.2005, 19:54 10

One Rolls Royce, two Lamborghinis, two Aston Martins and four Maseratis. This is a summary of the orders for super-luxury cars collected at the Bucharest International Car Show (SIAB), which ended last week. The preliminary list of firm orders and pre-contracts sealed at the SIAB tops 1,500-2,000 vehicles, according to estimates, and has a value of over 20 million euros.

"We have already signed a pre-contract for one car. This will be followed soon by a test drive with a series of potential customers for the Rolls Royce Phantom, after which we hope to attract more orders," says Michael Schmidt, general manager of Automobile Bavaria, the domestic importer of the BMW group. The pre-tax price of a Rolls Royce Phantom exceeds 350,000 euros.

Schmidt says that the car show also brought the importer over 40 new orders for various models in the BMW range.

For Porsche Romania, the largest importer on the domestic market, the car show acted as a good sales agent, all the more so since Porsche Romania''s exhibition area was the auto show''s biggest this year.

Besides orders for volume models, such as its Skoda models, or luxury models, such as those made by Audi, in the first few days of the show, Porsche Romania also managed to seal a number of pre-contracts for Lamborghini sports cars, priced at several hundred thousand euros each.

SIAB also meant pre-contracts and firm orders for the AutoItalia group, the representative of Fiat on the domestic market. Besides Fiats and Alfa Romeos, AutoItalia also concluded contracts for vehicles made by SsangYong and luxury models from Maserati - 4 orders for the Quattroporte and Gransport sport model. A Maserati Quattroporte costs close to 100,000 euros.

In terms of the overall market, the highest sales were reported by Dacia, the domestic carmaker. More than 400 cars were ordered at the Dacia stands, with almost one third choosing the Logan Diesel model, which went on display for the first time at the show.

According to representatives of Renault Nissan Romania, Renault received over 250 orders, especially for its Clio Symbol and Megane Sedan models, while Nissan saw close to one hundred orders, mainly for its Pathfinder and Primera.

SIAB 2005 was seen by almost all participants as an improvement since last year''s show and also meant much better business for the organisers.
