Siemens builds factory after factory

Germany''s Siemens, one of the leading industrial producers in the world, began operating its new factory on Tuesday, making electronic components in Sibiu, and announced it would open one more in Timisoara, a project involving an investment of 25 million euros. The new Siemens Industrial Manufacturing Engineering and Application (SIMEA) factory based in Sibiu specialises in manufacturing electronic components and equipment especially for refrigerators and washing machines. The factory in Timisoara will be built by Siemens VDO Automotive and entail 60 million euros in total investments. The facility will take up 10,000 square metres, while the office building will take up 8,000 square metres. Production will begin in October 2006. Siemens VDO Automotive already has a research and development centre in Timisoara, which has 1,100 employees, while its turnover stands at 26 million euros. The centre entailed a 7 million euro investment. ZF
