Summer brings profit to Bermas

03.09.2003, 00:00 10

Brewer Bermas Suceava logged 23.2bn ROL ($0.7 million) profit in the second quarter this year after having posted 4.7bn ROL loss in the first three months. Bermas' beer sales amounted to 135bn ROL ($4 million) in Q2, compared to only 26bn ROL in Q1. Its H1 turnover therefore reached 161bn ROL, up 23% from the same time last year and above the inflationary rate in the period. Brewers' sales and profits are largely dependent on the weather conditions and the long winter this year meant a heavier loss than last year, while the excessive heat in July and August might mean profit kept going up. The company management set out to attain 38bn ROL net profit for this year, up from the 32bn ROL in 2002. The turnover should reach 334bn ROL. The company owns several beer brands, such as Bermas Pils, Calimani and Suceava, which it distributes all over Moldova, with the counties of Suceava, Botosani and Neamt accounting for the largest share in the total sales.
