Tehnoton banks on metal doors

02.06.2005, 20:10 8

Home appliances manufacturer Tehnoton Iasi, which is part of Omega-Tehnoton Group, generated 85bn ROL (2.3 million euros) of turnover in the first quarter of the year, down around 12% on the same period in 2004 when sales reached 97bn ROL (2.4 million euros). They derived first-quarter profits of 2.4bn ROL (65,000 euros). As in 2004, Tehnoton''s first quarter results reflect the slight fall of the home appliances market, as well as increasing competition. Through the ten companies in the group, Omega-Tehnoton makes electronic equipment, cookers, washing machines, luxury sofas, aluminium structures and air conditioning units. Tehnoton''s home appliances are aimed at the low-to-medium income category. Tehnoton is one of the three main manufacturers of cookers in Romania. The company added metallic doors to the range of products it manufactures in order to take advantage of the opportunities on the market. "We started making metallic doors last year in a bid to make the most of our available production facilities, and we have been successful on this market. At the moment we can hardly meet our clients'' orders," said Mihaela Berneaga, the marketing manager of the Iasi-based company. ZF
