Terapia: sales exceed expectations

Drug maker Terapia Cluj posted turnover worth 25 million dollars in the first three months of the year, a 30% rise against the similar period of last year. "If we only talk about March this year, we see a 20% growth against March of last year," stated Dragos Damian, financial manager of the company. Sales of the first quarter led Terapia to revise its full-year estimates for the sales volume from 100 million dollars to 110 million dollars, which accounts for a 40% growth against last year. The company''s best selling products on the OTC segment (drugs which are sold without a doctor''s prescription) were Aspacardin (for heart conditions) and Paduden (analgesic), which saw record volumes. Artroflex also saw record sales; in terms of prescription drugs, the best sellers were Dilatan and Fosypril, drugs recently launched by the company. Terapia is the biggest generic drugs producer in Romania, with a turnover exceeding 80 million dollars in 2005. Thirty percent of the company''s portfolio is exported to the markets of 15 European countries, with Terapia posting over 11 million dollars in revenues from exports last year. The forecast for this year made by company officials indicates an increase in the revenues from exports to 13 million dollars in 2006. ZF
