Turkish cement factory in Romania?

Sabanci Holding, the second largest business group in Turkey, is planning to open a cement factory in Romania. The group will allocate 150 million dollars to the project if it decides to go for a one-million tonne/year production capacity. The groupa??s chairman of the board, Guler Sabanci, met with the Economy and Trade Minister, Codrut Seres, in Bucharest last week and requested support for the greenfield-type investment. Sabanci is leading a delegation of Turkish businessmen on a visit to Romania to identify business opportunities. a??The Turkish businessmen have expressed their interest in investing in the Romanian cement industry. The investment should be worth at least 150 million dollars for a minimum estimated output of one million tonnes of cement per year,a?? ministry representatives say. Sabanci also hopes to become involved in the sale of electricity that is produced in Romania or imported. The projects presented by Seres to the businessmen included the construction of an underwater cable for transporting energy between Romania and Turkey. ZF
