Uniqa Group officially owns 27% in Astra

14.06.2005, 21:10 8

The deal whereby Austrian group Uniqa acquired 27% in Astra Asigurari for 10 million euros (361.7bn ROL) has finally been completed, Astra has announced. The National Securities Commission (CNVM) had blocked the clearing of the transaction last Tuesday night, saying that the stake being sold by Nova Trade, Astra''s majority shareholder, was still the object of a lawsuit filed by SIF Banat-Crisana, Astra minority shareholder, who was challenging a capital increase made in 2003. The CNVM had warned at the time that the clearing of the transaction would be held back until the Austrian group stated in writing that it was aware of the situation regarding the stake in question. Astra officials did not say whether Uniqa had presented any such document to the CNVM, saying only that the deal had been finalised. Uniqa representatives could not be reached. Uniqa began to show an interest in the Romanian market after publishing its 2004 financial report. It explained that its expansion on the Romanian and Bulgarian markets would mainly be for the development of bancassurance products. ZF
