Former Finance Minister Sebastian Vlădescu says, three weeksfrom his dismissal, that Prime Minister Emil Boc has a limitedgrasp of the complexities and difficulties of the economy, especially in extremely tough times such as the current crisis. Hesays the people running the country knew back in January that theyhad to carry out a heavy restructuring of the state apparatus, butthe prime minister and the government waited until the last minutefor a solution to emerge that would prevent the cuts. Therelationship between Vlădescu and Prime Minister Boc was extremelytense, with the prime minister ultimately prevailing, when hedismissed him, despite President Băsescu being the one who hadbrought him into the government and endorsed him.

"As far as prime minister's ability to understand thecomplexities of the Romanian economy, and especially thedifficulties of the Romanian economy, I think there was a limit tohis expertise, it had to do with his having to take over the reinsof the Romanian economy in a time of crisis," said Vlădescu at the"20 years later" TV show on Pro TV on Sunday.
He suggested it was necessary for President Băsescu to intervene inMay, when he announced 25% cuts to public sector workers' salariesand the proposed 15% pension cuts, because Prime Minister Boc hadallegedly not agreed to this.
