(story to be published in tomorrow's issue, March 20)

The anti-racist week will be celebrated in the whole world between 18 - 26.03. 2000 at the initiative of UNESCO. The International Civil Service Romania promotes tolerance and international understanding through voluntary participation. This is the reason they joined the "United Against Racism" project. During the whole year, a series of events related to world peace, tolerance and respect for other cultures will be organised by the International Civil Service Romania. The National Council for Refugees, the Students' Association for Fight against Racism and the Club A foundation are partners in this venture. This project includes the 21st of March Day, deemed the "International Day for Elimination of Racial Discrimination" by the general assembly of the United Nations. This will serve as an answer to the killing of 70 meeting participants in Sharpeville, South Africa in 1960, in order to make the young people more sensitive to the fight for peace. The programme of the week includes the distribution of an informative packet in high schools, faculties, on the streets, during shows and displays. Sunday at 21.00, the display "United against Racism" will be held at the Municipal Museum Bucharest. Monday at 21.00 a refugees group will hold a gospel concert at the "Green Hours." Wednesday at 20.00 the Students' Association for Fight against Racism will present an "Ethnic Parade" in Club A at 20.00 and at 22.00 the groups "Vank" and "Daft Allison" from Bucharest and "Implant pentru Refuz" from Timisoara will play in the "United Against Racism" concert.
