Urban congestion in the Piata Unirii area, as well as the reconstruction of Bucharest's historic centre could bring Carrefour the highest customer figures per unit for its new Unirii store, which is due to open today. Just several metres away from the new Carrefour location there is another point of attraction for shoppers, Unirea Shopping Center, which registers a customer flow of 40,000 people each day, according to with data provided by the company managing the shopping centre. Carrefour Unirii hypermarket, taken over from Univers'All, will be the smallest unit of the French network in Romania, with the amount of non-food products on offer being smaller compared with the other stores owned by the company. However, the food section in the smaller Unirii hypermarket will be identical with those in other Carrefour stores. Carrefour is going to open a further 2 hypermarkets this year in both Cluj-Napoca and Iasi, with investments worth around 20m euros in each store.
