Wine producers, coping with market declines for two years, havefound their salvation on the Asian continent, with China and Japanas the newest export destinations. The contracts the firms havealready sealed in these areas are laying the groundwork fordeliveries to the region to go beyond 20m euros in the next fiveyears, considering Romania's overall wine exports revolved around15m euros last year alone. Wine producers have decided to try theirluck in China after domestic consumption has slumped by around 10%lately, there have been shifts to the low-price segments and VAThike has made things even worse for companies. "A first order of1.1m euros has already been met and wine exports worth 2m euros toChina are expected by yearend. For 2011, wine exports by DomeniileTohani to China are forecast at around 10m euros," says FlorinTimau, marketing manager with Domeniile Viticole Tohani, a companythat reported the biggest level of exports on this market. Whilefor Tohani 2010 is the first year of exports to the Asiancontinent, Vinexport Focsani embarked on this project as early as2009, when 2.8% of its revenues came from this market. Vinexportreached 8.8m-euro turnover in 2009.
