UPC, ranking third on the domestic high-speed fixed Internetmarket, launched its cable Internet services with data downloadspeeds of up to 120 Mpbs in 12 cities, thus beating its rivalsRCS&RDS and Romtelecom for the first time in this respect.

The domestic subsidiary of the US company has been facingcriticism about the speed of its data services for retail clientsover time, so that the operator has over the past two yearsinvested in infrastructure, namely in the implementation of theEurodocsis 3.0 platform, to be able to launch packagesoutperforming those of rivals.

UPC in late 2010 had 255,000 fixed Internet clients, comparedwith around one million in the case of Romtelecom and more than 1.1million at RCS&RDS.
