ApR considers post-electoral alliance with PDSR

23.08.2000, 00:00 9

ApR (Alliance for Romania) deputy chairman Gheorghe Tinca on Monday sent a letter to PDSR (Party of Social Democracy) prime deputy chairman Adrian Nastase proposing the initiation of a political dialogue between the two factions and furthering the possibility of post-electoral collaboration to the end of setting up a centre-left wing parliamentary majority.

Following the analysis of the letter, PDSR's Central Executive Bureau considered that the dialogue must start in the near future, on Monday stated Ioan Mircea Pascu, PDSR deputy chairman. Gheorghe Tinca on Monday told Ziarul Financiar that the party's leadership agreed with his move, which came as a reaction to the initiative of PDSR prime deputy chairman, who almost three weeks ago spoke for the "normalisation" of relations with ApR.

"Relationships between our parties have been for too long and in various cases tense from reasons lacking all substance," reads the letter received by the PDSR leader. Tinca goes on complaining about the "hostility" the two parties regard one another with, considering that ApR and PDSR hold responsibilities not only to the electorate, but also "with respect to social democrat ideas and the future of social democracy in Romania."

According to ApR chairman, political dialogue may approach themes linked to the electoral campaign, "including the settling of behaviour norms for candidates from the part of our parties". Other themes refer to the post-electoral context, "including the possibility of co-operation in a future centre-left wing parliamentary majority and in a possible centre-left-wing ruling."

Tinca specified his party had held discussions with all the other political factions, excluding PD (Democrat Party) and PDSR.
