29.03.2005, 00:00 13

Banca Transilvania plans invest around 11 million euros this year in developing its network and diversifying its portfolio of services and products.

"The bank's investments will total at least 11 million euros this year. The money will be used to develop the infrastructure, the IT network and the bank's branches. We are also planning to launch an asset-management division in the near future," said Robert Rekkers, the bank's general manager.

The bank yesterday opened its sixth Bucharest branch and aims to have at least 22 branches and agencies in the capital city by the end of the year, Rekkers added.

"One of our objectives for 2005 is to strengthen our position in important areas in Bucharest. Late last year, we had five branches in Bucharest, ten agencies and a BT Cafe unit," Rekkers said.

According to the bank's general manager, the network will add a further 50 units this year, besides the existing 131.

Rekkers believes the network could expand to 180 agencies and branches by the end of the year, as most spaces will be rented. In the near future, BT will open three branches in Tecuci and another two in Galati.

"We have been granted full support by the shareholders and by that I mean the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), which will become a significant strategic partner," Rekkers said.

Moreover, the bank's general manager announced the expansion of the BT Cafe concept, to promote Banca Transilvania's activity in Constanta, Cluj-Napoca and Timisoara. liviu.chiru@zf.ro
