Bank of Cyprus sees 8m-euro profit after nine months

Bank of Cyprus Romania, the local subsidiary of the Cypriotgroup of the same name, posted 8 million euros in net profit in thefirst nine months in 2008, almost three times higher than theprofit recorded in the similar period of last year, according todata reported by the group. At the end of September, the bank hadloans worth 585 million euros in its portfolio, up from 501 millioneuros in the similar period of 2008. In the third quarter of 2009the bank granted funding worth around 18 million euros, 81% lessthan in the similar period of 2008. Deposits attracted by the banktotalled 113 million euros at the end of the first three quartersof 2009, up by 20 million euros against the half-year level. On theoverall market, deposits saw a fast rise this year, with banksfocusing on attracting resources, and significantly boostinginterests in the first few months of the year.
