Banks boost Asiban's turnover

05.11.2003, 00:00 7

One of the few Romanian-held top insurers in Romania, Asiban, has tripled the amount of gross premiums collected in the first nine months of this year from 336bn ROL to 1,031bn ROL. The growth in euros is 150%, from 11.2 million euros to 28.6 million euros. The gross premiums subscribed reached 34 million euros during the same interval. Life insurance-related revenues simply boomed throughout Q1-Q3, from the about 1 million euros in 2002 to more than 7 million euros this year. The data about the leading companies on the life insurance market are not available in full yet but this growth may have propelled Asiban among the top 7 or 8 insurers in terms of market share. More than 55% of Asiban's business is based on the very tight co-operation with commercial banks, whose lending operations have surged over the last twelve months following the drop in interests. "By November last year we had already concluded our contracts with the banks," general manager Mugurel Ceraceanu said. ZF
