Bruynseels, BCR: Young bankers have to pause and learn some more

16.03.2009, 16:18 10

The banking system employs many young, talented Romanians, who have become used to moving very fast, but now they have to pause and learn some more, says Dominic Bruynseels, CEO of the BCR bank, with over 25 years' experience in international banking. "In times like these, you really learn about people, about banks and about yourself. In this respect, the crisis is good." He says Romania's financial market is still in an early stage of development, which offers "fantastic opportunities" on virtually all segments, from large companies to micro-enterprises, retail and private banking. "Exploiting opportunities also means having more middle management resources." With banks starting to face a rise in the number of clients who are late with their loan payments due to the worsening of the financial situation, Bruynseels says he sees no reason for concern at the BCR, not even as far as unsecured consumer loans are concerned, which account for 25% of the portfolio, although a firmer approach is needed.
