FCCC lands 25m euro deal

Spanish FCC Construccion, one of the biggest construction companies in Europe, has recently announced that it has won a 25.3 million euro contract for the rehabilitation of a 30 km section of National Road 1 between Cluj-Livada in north-western Romania. FCC Group, the parent company of FCC Construccion, posted a 309 million-euro net income in 2003, with turnover of 6bn euros. The deal concluded with the National Highways and National Roads Company of Romania only involves upgrading and widening the road to nine metres in urban areas and to between 7 and 12 metres outside urban areas, according to a release by the Spanish group. The works will require some 175,000 tonnes of asphalt. The Romanian authorities are currently engaged in a rehabilitation programme for all types of roads - national, county or country roads. Another major contract for the rehabilitation of a national road was recently awarded to Israeli company Solel Boneh. The Israeli company received a 213 million euro ($250 million) order for the rehabilitation of a 120 km section of National Road 2 between Focsani, Ojdula andTargu Secuiesc. The contract will see Solel Boneh arranging the financing of the project, carrying out and maintaining the road for the entire duration of the lease. ZF
