Ferretti sets out to achieve 11m-euro sales

28.03.2005, 00:00 11

Italian deluxe boat maker Ferretti, which has recently entered the Romanian market through a dealer, Franco's Marina, believes the time has come for such products to reach Eastern Europe. Sales of yachts and boats are so high in Western Europe that harbours in the south of France or in Italy, for instance, are already packed full.

"We have set out to sell at least five luxurious yachts and 50 medium and small boats in the next two years, and we therefore target an 11 million-euro turnover," said Marco Segato, Ferretti Group vice-president.

The Ferretti luxurious boats cost from 600,000 to 5 or 6 million euros. The insurance for such an yacht may exceed 20,000 euros a year, depending on the model and the type of policy.

"The luxurious yacht market in Romania is in its early stages, but we are confident in the potential of Eastern Europe. Russia for instance has a market of more than 120 million euros a year, and is one of the main markets for Ferretti," Segato added.

Other players on the Romanian market besides Franco's Marina include Euronautics, American Nautics, Neptun Yacht and Black Sea Magic.

Italian Ferretti Company, based in Forli, was established in 1968. Its first model ever sold was the Khamsin, based on a fishing boat.

The boat builder saw total sales of 154 million euros in 2003. Its output last year stood at 110 units, six of which were model 88, the top of the line, which costs more than 5 million euros. Ferretti has a network of 37 dealers and covers 69 countries. The Italian company is set to enter Sweden, South Africa and Chile soon. alexandru.cerchez@zf.ro
