GPV swims against tide of euro decline

07.10.2005, 20:11 8

GPV Romania, a member of GPV Groupe based in France, one of the main European manufacturers of envelopes and providers of complex corporate mail management services, has announced an increase of 15% in its exports, despite the fact that most exporting companies in Romania are revising their strategies due to the euro depreciation.

"We have offset the devaluation of the euro by an increase in production capacities and by launching new products. The growth in the first six months of the year was not significant, but in our line of business, the second half of the year is better than the first," Thierry Blain, GPV Groupe''s general manager for Central and Eastern Europe, told ZF Transilvania.

He added that the newest products launched included paper cubes and notebooks, as well.

The production capacity of the company went up by 18% last year, and its officials estimate production will be 30% higher by the end of next year, following over 450,000 euros in investment in a new facility that will cover 1,000 square metres.

"Works on the new facility will begin early next year and are set for completion in 2006. The investment project is part of GPV Groupe''s strategy to turn the company in Romania into the sole representative of the group for Eastern Europe," Thierry Blain said.

Company officials estimate that this year''s turnover will reach more than 6.8 million euros, an increase of 55% on 2004. GPV Romania makes 400 million envelopes a year, while the total output of the group reaches 12 billion envelopes a year.

The production centre in Cluj-Napoca was established in 2002, when GPV Groupe decided to expand to the countries of Eastern Europe. The French group invested three million euros in the construction of the centre in Cluj, which covers an area of 6,000 square metres.

The investment plans for the next two years target the development of the mail-service department. Production operations will be kept in Cluj, while mail management will be handled solely by the Bucharest office of the company, which will buy the latest editing and mechanical mail insertion equipment, as well as IT equipment. "We will invest around three million euros over the next two years to develop the mail service department, enabling us to process the database for our customers in complete safety and to be able to insert an initial 10 million documents per month," Blain said.

The company also intends to expand the area covered by its sales through partnerships with the major networks, such as Metro, Carrefour, Cora and Selgros.

It has a further three offices in Bucharest, Timisoara and Iasi that provide mail management services. transilvania@zf.ro
