The importer of Mercedes last week has launched two car models whose price is of 100,000 euros or even higher. The luxury cars saw a growth pace way beyond the market average last year.
Autorom, the importer of German manufacturer Mercedes on the local market, launched simultaneously two new luxury models, the SUV GL and the sports coupe CL.
With a price ranging between 94,000 euros and 131,000 euros with taxes, depending on the options gear and the engine version, GL already attracted 30 orders and is expected to sell 45 units by the end of the year, say the importer representatives.
According to the importer, GL competes with Audi Q7 model, the first SUV launched by Audi, which posted an unexpectedly high sales volume on the local market.
Mercedes GL also has to compete with the representatives of other brands well positioned on the luxury segment, such as Range Rover or Lexus. Being built on the same technical platform as ML model, GL is equipped, to a great extent, with the same engines. The models come with a V6 diesel engine (6 cylinders placed in V shape) with a capacity of 3.2 litres and 224HP, though a 4.2 litre V8 diesel engine, developing 306 HP, will be also available.
While the prices for GL exceed 100,000 euros only for the top models, the CL coupe is available at prices ranging between 122,000 euros and 172,000 euros.
The new coupe is available in two variants. CL 500 has two engine options, the 5 and 6-litre V8, which can develop 388 HP and 517 HP respectively. CL 600 is available with a V12 biturbo engine, ensuring high dynamic performances.
Although the starting price amounts to 122,000 euros, there have been already orders received for about 15 units and the company could sell 30 units this year.
By launching these two models, Mercedes importer could strengthen its position on the luxury car market, projecting sales of about 1,700 units for this year, which would account for some 40% rise against last year.
Over 1,200 Mercedes cars sold have been sold in the first nine months of the year, according to the Association of Automotive Manufacturers and Importers (APIA), the preferred ones being C class with over 320 units sold and R class, with over 230 units.
The models on the luxury segment, S Class, witnessed the strongest growth, with the sales having gone by 3.5 times in the first nine months of the year. The ML model saw the same growth, tripling its sales to 230 units over the same period.
