Home appliances producer Arctic Gaesti, held by Arcelik group in Turkey, has increased its exports in the first half by 17% to 411,000 units, an increase of 60,000 units against the same time last year, largely thanks to new markets added. Arctic says that 62% of its exports were destined to Western European countries like France, Spain, Germany, Poland and the United Kingdom. "Arctic has also added new countries to its foreign customer portfolio: Ireland, Albania, and Central African countries, thus broadening the sales area for its Gaesti-built refrigerating equipment," stated Ugur Kayali, Arctic's general manager. Artic posted a turnover worth 99 million euros between January and June, 24% higher against the same time in 2006, after achieving a total sales volume, exports included, of 691,000 units. With a share of exports accounting for 60% of the total turnover, the value of sales to foreign markets could reach 60 million euros. "Arctic's sales in the first six months followed the upward trend of last year, thus witnessing an increase in volume by over 12% compared with the same time in 2006. The increase was largely because of the sales of sophisticated products," Kayali added. The producer sold more than 142,000 refrigerators on the Romanian market in the first six months, while the total sales volume (TV sets, washing machines, vacuum cleaners) on the domestic market reached 280,000 units. Arctic makes only refrigerators in Gaesti, with the rest of the appliances in the Arctic range actually being assembled at the Arcelik plants in Turkey.
