New Link, the company that operates the Sony Center electronic specialist store chain, estimates almost 17 million-euro revenues this year, an increase of 55% on 2006, as a result of higher online sales and store chain development. "We will reach 16-17 million euros if the period up to the end of the year follows the same upward trend witnessed so far. Sales have also increased in the existing stores and in new ones, as well as online and in cash & carry stores," stated Nicolae Dumitrescu, sales manager of Sony Center. A substantial contribution to the business of electronics and home appliance companies comes from the sales in the last quarter of the year and from sales made in the last month in summer, which is the holiday month. "August has been a very good month for the last few years. It is the time when people who work abroad come home and buy presents. Even better, however, is the October-December period, when we sell as much as we would over six regular months," Dumitrescu says. The company currently has a network of 7 stores of its own and 2 stores operated by franchisees in Pitesti and Constanta. The only store that the company owns outside Bucharest is located in Polus Center in Cluj, which required investments worth 80,000 euros. The long-term development strategy entails, Dumitrescu says, expanding the network to 15 stores. Investment per 100-150 square metre store amounts to 50,000-80,000 euros.
