Parisot Group builds new furniture factory

13.10.2004, 00:00 20

The French Parisot Group, a leading investor in the furniture industry in Romania, has begun works on a wood processing facility in Tarnaveni, Mures County.

The facility will become operational by the first half of next year.

"The new site in Tarnaveni will have an initial 100 employees but can have 2,000 or more people. At the moment more than 50 people are being trained at our French and Romanian factories. The necessity of adapting production tools to market demands and new technologies has created the need for a new specialised unit for the solid wood processing industry, equipped with the latest technical instruments," stated Jean-Luc Legras, Parisot chief executive for Romania.

With this new investment the French group intends to become the leading European solid wood-processing group.

"Our long-term objective is to become the first European group in the solid wood industry and have an adequate commercial development related to this target," Legras added.

At the moment, all the solid wood used by the group's European factories comes from Romania.

The French company became heavily involved in the Romanian furniture industry through its acquisition of various production facilities in Romania: Mobilux (Bucharest), Mobila Sovata, Mobila Oradea and SIM Sarmas (Mures), as well as a logistics platform (Mobimexa in Arad).

These factories employ a total of around 2,000 people and produce domestic furniture from wood, kitchen and bathroom suites, and textile and leather sofas. Their entire output is exported. Parisot's turnover in Romania is more than 70 million euros per year.

"In 2003, Parisot Group registered a 430 million euro turnover and has maintained its turnover in the first half of 2004. Romania's share of the total turnover of the group is 15%," Legras added.
