RCS&RDS no longer offers fixed telephony free of charge

20.05.2010, 22:21 16

RCS&RDS, one of the leading telecom operators in the region, has introduced a 5-RON fee per month since May 18th for the fixedtelephony service previously offered free of charge for clients ofInternet or cable TV services, according to data on the company'swebsite, as well as from employees in the company's callcentres.
This is one of the most severe corrections in RCS&RDS's pricingpolicy, considering that the decision to boost fees could affectover one million clients. RCS&RDS had 1.5 million fixedtelephony clients at the end of last year - according to marketestimates - a big share of whom received the services free ofcharge, as a bonus to cable TV services or to Internet services. The five RON per month fee could bring RCS&RDS around 8 millioneuros in revenues by the end of the year, if the fee were to becharged only to one million clients.
"The offer has been in place for two days now. Subscriptions costeither 2 euros per month or five RON per month - both include VAT,"explain operators in RCS&RDS call centres. RCS&RDSofficials could not be contacted by the time this issue was readyfor print.
