Romanians won't pay any more than 500 RON for a PC monitor on average

Monitors with prices of below or close to 500 RON are thosebringing the biggest sales in Romania, a market with low salescompared with other countries in the region, and which isshrinking, according to the data LG and Philips provided to ZF.

"For 2010, the average price for LG LCD monitors stood at 499RON for 19-inch ones and at 539 RON for 20-inch ones," LG Romaniaofficials told ZF.

"The average price of a monitor sold in Romania revolves around90 euros," Cristian Bucur, sales manager for Philips monitors withMMD, told ZF. "At the average price of 90 euros, the distributor'smargin of 2-3%, and the retailer's margin, of as much as 15%, areadded, and then VAT is applied, yielding the final, shelfprice".

In the first half of this year, monitor imports in Romaniadropped to 174,000 from almost 200,000 units in 2009, according toMMD data.

In the second quarter, says Bucur, sales were largely generatedby the Euro 200 governmental programme, through which low-incomefamilies get a 200-euro coupon they can use to buy a desktop and amonitor.
