Daewoos renamed Chevrolet?

25.09.2003, 00:00 31

GM Daewoo, the company established by US-based General Motors Group and the creditors of Korean carmaker Daewoo Motor last year, will replace the Daewoo brand name with the Chevrolet nameplate, a project to be first turned into effect in Romania, Poland, Bulgaria, Ukraine and Turkey, Erhard Spranger, head of GM Daewoo Europe told Automotive News Europe. According to General Motors, this strategy will be used during the launch campaign on new markets in Central and Eastern Europe. The change in name will eventually be made in the Western European countries, as well. "The old Daewoo name and the new GM Daewoo are not different enough. It is better to use the Chevrolet brand name on those markets where Daewoo has not entered yet," Erhard Spranger said. He added the change on the markets where Daewoo was already operating would be done by new model releases. The Daewoo branded cars have already undergone the change in name to Chevrolet in the Asia-Pacific region and in the US. ZF
