Dafora Medias and German company Man Ferrostaal have announced they intend to halt investments worth 100 million euros in a new biodiesel plant, which was planned in Atel, Sibiu county. The two parties decided to pull the plug on the project due to the instability of the European biodiesel market. Representatives of both the Romanian and the German company made this decision at a meeting held in Munich at the end of last year. "This project was largely based on the expertise and competence of our German partners, and, considering the instability of the European biodiesel market, it was decided that this project would not go ahead," said Cristina Suteu, spokesperson for Dafora Medias. The project was supposed to involve the Sibiu County Council, as well as the local public authorities in Atel commune, which were responsible for providing the land. The project was scheduled to start as early as a year ago, but was delayed, because of what the local public authorities in Sibiu called "hesitations from the German group". The final blow was when biodiesel become more expensive than diesel oil on the fuel market.
