The market of over 18-tonne trucks returned to growth in thefirst half of this year, after plummeting by almost 90% in 2009,with the increase having been supported by large transportcompanies renewing their fleets.

Sales of trucks of above 18 tonnes, mainly used in long-haulfreight transport, advanced by almost 25% in the first six monthsof this year, according to the data provided by Romania'sAutomotive Manufacturers and Importers Association (APIA).
"The increase is just showing large transport companies arecementing their market share domestically on the distribution andlogistics segment after small firms closed," said Marilena Matei, atransport market analyst.
Last year, sales of commercial utility vehicles declined by almost66% to 16,700 units. Of these, trucks heavier than 18 tonnes had anover 83% decrease, the steepest decline on the Romanianmarket.
On the other hand, this year the biggest increases on the carmarket were posted by DAF and Scania truck brands, by 57% and 51%,respectively, according to APIA statistical data.
