Ford: New Mondeo surpasses growth estimates

Ford sales on the Romanian market have gone up 56% in the first eight months of this year, compared with the same time last year, to 12,648 vehicles, 9,668 of which are cars. "Estimated sales for this year stand at over 18,000 units. If the growth rate continues into the last few months of this year sales could reach 20,000 units," said Catalin Gavra, general manager of Romcar, Ford's importer on the Romanian market. This summer, the American carmaker launched its third generation Ford Mondeo on the market, which climbed to the second position in the medium segment ranking, selling 327 units in August, thus exceeding the over 100-unit sales of the Toyota Avensis model, which held the second place during the first eight months of the year. "In its first two months on the market, the Mondeo model saw sales of over 300 units, compared with the original estimate, which stood at 250 units. It is unlikely that Mondeo will take over the leading position of the medium segment because it is unable to meet the market demand, but will definitely be number two in terms of sales," said Gavra. According to Romcar representatives, when it first launched, the number of Mondeo cars in stock amounted to 1,100, with the number now standing at around 500 units.
