Head of kika is optimistic. He expects rebound of furniture market this year

Furniture and interior decoration retailer kika, which operatesa store in western Bucharest continued to see a growth trend in thefirst two months of 2011, a trend which is estimated to be kept forthe entire year.

"If consumer confidence continues to increase and infrastructureis improved, I think we will have a very good year," said LarsLund, country manager of kika Romania. He did not say what thetrend was in January and February compared with the similar periodof last year, but for the entire financial year ending on March31st, the kika manager says he expects 7% higher sales.

According to data from the Trade Registry, kika posted 11.8million euros in sales in 2009 calendar year and 4 million euros inlosses.

Lund is the second furniture industry manager to send a positivesignal after Dan Şucu, who controls Mobexpert stores, announcedthat in 2011 he expected Mobexpert to return to growth. Şucu'srecent statements are the first optimistic signals he has sentsince the start of the crisis. Moreover, he even talked for thefirst time about resuming expansion with two large stores, afterhaving received good offers from owners of suitable space.

In turn, the head of kika announces expansion plans, but not for2011. "The next store, which is scheduled to open in the spring of2012, will be located in Constanţa, with construction works alreadyunder way," Lund added.
