Worldwide sales of Automobile Dacia increased 17.4% in 2007, to 230,473 units, from 196,378 units last year, according to company statistics, with more than half the production of the Mioveni-based plant going to export. Company officials say they are "a little disappointed" in the trend of sales in Romania. The sales increase was sustained by the Logan model, which sold 367,745 units worldwide, up 48% against 2006, both under the Dacia and the Renault brand. The domestic turnover posted by Automobile Dacia in 2007 could exceed the 2 billion-euro mark, according to ZF estimates, given that the value of cars sold stands at around 1.85 billion euros, which is calculated based on the price of 8,000 euros per car, and on a volume of 230,473 units. Automobile Dacia's sales on the local market will increase by around 5% in 2008, compared with last year, according to previous statements made by Constantin Stroe, vice-president of the company, who predicts a 5-7% increase on the local market this year. In the first 11 months of last year, Automobile Dacia held a 28.1% share of the local market, lower than the 36.3% share recorded in 2006. "We are hoping to maintain an around 30% market share in 2008. We are a little disappointed in the decline registered by Dacia sales on the local market, but on the other hand, it is logical, given that the market is evolving. On the sedan segment, we hold a significant share of the market," stated Jacques Daniel (photo), Automobile Dacia's commercial manager.
