Number of Romanians investing on the BSE halves

10.05.2006, 00:00 8

The downward trend that the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BSE) has seen since the end of February has turned local investors away from the market, with the monthly number of Romanian individual buyers on the Stock Exchange dropping last month to less than 5,700 people, after it had exceeded 10,300 in March. The monthly number of Romanian buyers on the Stock Exchange had hit a record high in January, when it had exceeded the 12,500-people threshold, but has since dropped each month. The situation is similar to that seen in the first part of last year when the majority of shares increased strongly and over 10,000 Romanian buyers were attracted to the market, a record at the time. However, investors were gradually driven away after the dramatic fall that the market suffered. Last year in April, there were some 8,120 Romanian buyers on the Stock Exchange, after a drop from some 9,500 in the previous month. ZF
