Romanians' favourite foreign travel destinations

16.04.2009, 17:13 7

1.2-1.5 Romanians went on holiday abroad through travel agencies last year, 20% more than in the previous year, with Greece, Bulgaria and Turkey being the most in demand destinations in the summer season (April-October). The over 600,000 tourists attracted by the three destinations account for half the travel packages bought by Romanians who spent their holidays (mostly in the summer) abroad. Are they still the top three destinations? "Romanians are choosing the same destinations as last year. In terms of quantity, the destinations that attract the most Romanian tourists remain Greece and Bulgaria, while Turkey generates the highest revenues, selling packages costing 500 to 1,500 euros," said Traian Badulescu, spokesman of the National Association of Travel Agencies (ANAT). Other new destinations promoted by travel agencies are Slovenia, Montenegro, Albania and Ukraine. "The past five years have seen 20-30% increases in the number of Romanian tourists buying holiday packages for travelling abroad. This year we will record a stagnation or a one-digit increase in the number of Romanian tourists choosing external destinations," said Mircea Vladu, owner of Prestige Tours travel agency. The best-selling products of travel agencies are holiday packages (with charter flights), circuits (flight - coach), children's camp holidays, as well as holidays to exotic countries or cruises, which will be 5-20% cheaper this year, depending on the product chosen.
