Saint-Gobain set to invest further in Calarasi plant

The biggest greenfield investment in the constructions fieldafter the '90s, Calarasi-based glass plant built by French groupSaint-Gobain, with annual turnover worth 37.7bn euros, is set to beexpanded in the following years, with the French giant wanting theplatform to become a leading production centre of the French groupin Europe on the medium term. The French company chose not todisclose the value of planned investments, but stated they wouldfurther develop the production facility in Calarasi. After130m-euro investments in the past four years, Saint-Gobain willearmark another 6m euros this year to set up a laminated glassproduction line, and expansion will not stop here. The 80-ha planthas come to produce from simple float glass, to solar control orlow-emissivity glass in three years. Construction works for thelaminated glass production line will start in the second half ofthis year, with the new line set to become operational inmid-2011.
