Calin Tatomir, the new chief executive officer of Microsoft's domestic office

Calin Tatomir, 46, one of the best-known managers in thedomestic IT&C industry, is going to take over the position ofchief executive officer of Microsoft's domestic office startingfrom October 15, and will replace Silviu Hotaran.
Tatomir, who graduated from the Electronics and TelecommunicationsFaculty of Bucharest in 1987, ran the services unit of Digital UScompany, subsequently filling the position of sales manager atCompaq Romania; thus becoming one of the most important executiveson the domestic IT market.
Tatomir is renowned for his knowledge of the market and for hisgovernmental and business connections.
During Calin Tatomir's time as a sales manager with Compaq, thecompany won the tender for the introduction of an IT system at theNational Health Insurance Office, worth 120 million euros, one ofthe biggest IT contracts for the state at that time.
In 2001, when HP acquired Compaq at a global level, Tatomir leftthe company to open his own business, an IT&C consultingservices office, a business he ran until now. Tatomir's office lastyear had 26 employees and generated net income worth 87,000 eurosamid turnover worth 1.2 million euros.
"Being part of Microsoft and working in an executive position is aunique experience and probably the most coveted job on the Romanianinformation technology market. Despite my 12 years' experience inexecutive positions at US corporations, I believe I'm facing abigger challenge," stated Tatomir.
The world's biggest software producer last year derived turnoverworth 24.5m euros and net income of 5.6m euros in Romania,according to Finance Ministry data, which does not reflect theentire domestic business of the software giant.
Microsoft Romania for the fiscal year ended on June 30 reported 45%higher revenues.
Silviu Hotaran decided to leave his executive position at MicrosoftRomania to develop his own business, in the field of consultancy.He started his career at Microsoft as a general manager of theRomanian subsidiary, since it opened in 1996.
In 2004, he was appointed general manager of Microsoft forSouth-eastern Europe and was in charge with developing thecompany's operations in ten countries of the region. In June 2007,he returned as a general manager in Romania.
