168m euros in nine months and three new products for Allianz-Tiriac

20.10.2005, 20:40 6

Insurance company Allianz-Tiriac has posted gross premiums underwritten of 168 million euros (over 615 million RON) compared with the same time last year.

"We are on target with profits, too," said Cristian Constantinescu, the general manager of the company. The insurer posted gross profits of 8 million euros in the first half of the year.

Allianz-Tiriac entered the private health insurance market yesterday, by launching three products aimed at companies. "We launched these products in response to the demand from customers," said Constantinescu. "We''re getting more and more inquiries about whether what we offer includes benefit packages for employees in general and health insurance policies in particular," he said.

Allianz-Tiriac works with a network of around 100 health care providers throughout the country in order to provide its services. If a policyholder uses a health care provider other than those accepted by Allianz-Tiriac, they must pay 25% of the expenses, while the insurer covers the rest.

"The current circumstances are favourable to the launch of these types of products," Constantinescu explained. "The state acknowledges the need for reform, private health care providers are developing rapidly and demand for health insurance products is on the rise," Constantinescu added. The company hopes to have 10,000 employees using its health insurance products by the end of the year and then to reach 9 million euros in premiums underwritten in 2008.

The three insurance plans available from Allianz-Tiriac are Standard, Optim and Extra, with monthly insurance premiums ranging from 10 to 50 euros.

The Standard plan covers expenses from visits to general practitioners, specialised physicians (five allowed per year), ambulance services (three per year), lab tests (once a year), X-ray services, and the costs involved in administering vaccines (two per year). The insurer also pays indemnities in case of hospitalisation of up 11 euros per day (40 RON), for up to half a year in case of accidents and 14 days a year in case of sickness. These indemnities are paid to the policyholder directly, and not reimbursed to the medical service provider.

Besides what is covered in the Standard plan, Optim also covers outpatients treatment for acute conditions, dental expenses in case of occupational or car accidents, and surgery performed at clinics.

The only product covering surgical procedures performed in hospitals is Extra. Allianz-Tiriac does not have a network of partner hospitals, meaning policyholders are able to choose the hospital they want. angela.placinta@zf.ro
