Tchibo, the largest coffee producer in Germany has announced that it will focus its investments on Eastern Europe, and plans to expand its coffee shop network in Romania, as well as in Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Turkey. "We will focus our attention on expansion in Eastern Europe. We will clearly no longer make large investments in the UK. Our investment resources are limited, and our main objective will be the rest of Europe," said Klaus Peter Nebel, spokesperson for the company, cited by Reuters news agency. In the UK, Tchibo holds an around 70-coffee shop network, with this number set to reach 1,200 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Whereas on the coffee market, Tchibo Romania's main competitors are companies such as Strauss, Cafea Fortuna and Nestle, its entry on the Romanian market with a coffee shop chain places the company next to big names on this segment, such as Starbucks, Gloria Jeans Coffees, Turabo and Costa Cafe, which brings the coffee shop market to over 100 million euros a year.
