AIG posts profit worth over $1m

AIG Romania, a subsidiary of the biggest financial services group in the world, American International Group, reported a net profit of over one million dollars (almost 3.14 million RON) for last year. The profit in dollars dropped by some 15% against 2004. "Last year''s profit was hurt by a claim we had to settle following the floods, which amounted to almost two million dollars," explained Mihnea Tobescu, general manager of AIG Romania. Tobescu estimates this year''s profit will stand at some 1.5 million dollars. The company closed last year with business worth approximately 27 million dollars, some 35% more in dollars against 2004, when it saw gross underwritten premiums of almost 20 million dollars (some 65 million RON). "We are expecting gross underwritten premiums to grow to 35 million dollars this year," says AIG Romania''s general manager. ZF
