BCR Asigurari ended the first six months of 2005 with total gross premiums underwritten of nearly 40 million euros (141.37 million RON), almost three times more than for the same period last year and 9% more than for the whole of 2004. "Factors that helped boost demand for our insurance products in the first half include the development of the lending business of banks and funding for purchases through leasing. Leasing turned out to be the driving force again in 2004, and it looks like the market will maintain its upward trend in 2005. In addition, the development of lending in the banking sector also boosted demand for insurance," said Romeo Jantea, BCR Asigurari''s general manager. Life insurance has been in the spotlight this year, being the top-selling insurance category in the first half and accounting for 32.43% of the total turnover of the company, compared with 13.2% at the end of last year.
