Boris Schneider replaced at the helm of Asirom

Boris Schneider, 51, has left his position as Asirom president,which he has held in the last six years, being replaced by MarianaDiaconescu, who was vice-president of the company.

"Mr. Schneider submitted his resignation in order to move on tonew career opportunities, and his resignation has been accepted bythe supervisory board. Ms. Diaconescu was appointed yesterday(Monday i.e.) as president of Asirom's management," specifiedcompany representatives.

Schneider, with almost thirty years' experience in the insuranceindustry, had become president in June 2005, when the shareholderschose a new management team to counter Asirom's decline.

Mariana Diaconescu came to Asirom as financial manager in 2005as well, after previously being president of state-heldimport-export bank EximBank. Diaconescu had been endorsed at thehelm of Eximbank by PSD (Social Democratic Party) and was removedfrom her position after the PNL-PDD alliance won the generalelections in 2004.

She is married to senator Cristian Diaconescu, former justiceminister in the government headed by Adrian Năstase, and earned7,100 euros a month last year, according to her husband's personalfinancial disclosure statement.

Schneider's replacement comes after he failed to turn Asiromaround, with the company sliding to no.6 on the market at present,after being a top three player in 2005.
