Caliprix, one of the main players on the local rice market, with an 11 million-euro turnover last year, will invest over half a million euros this year in building a peanut roasting facility. The plant will become operational in April and will have a total surface area of 700 square metres. "The investment involved in building the plant will stand at some 500,000-600,000 euros. The rice market has become saturated in Romania, that is why we want to develop other segments of the business, as well," stated Rami Bitar, the general manager of Caliprix. The company currently has a 7,000 square-metre plant in Bucharest, which includes an area where all products sold under the Caliprix brand are stored and packaged. According to statements made by the company representative, rice is the only product in the carbohydrate category that has not seen rises over the last period. The group sells rice, bean, sugar, lentil and popcorn on the local market. Calprix's shareholders intend to bring a new range of tinned food and sweets onto the market in the second half of this year. "We will develop a new range of products on the premium segment, European and American products for which we have exclusive representation rights in Romania," explained Rami Bitar.
