21.10.2005, 21:04 18

Cluj-based company Compexit, a car trader and provider of related services, has posted 7.9 million euros in turnover for the first nine months of the year, an increase of 63% on the same time last year.

The biggest contribution to this figure came from Compexit Trading, a Skoda dealer. This company posted 4.8 million euros in sales, achieving 60% of the total turnover of the group. Compared with the same time last year, sales were 64% higher. Compexit Trading''s management estimates full-year turnover of approximately 7 million euros, 75% higher than in 2004.

The company has sold 605 Skodas to date, with sales until the end of the year set to reach 835 units. Compexit Trading is expecting to sell more than 1,000 Skodas next year. Another member of the group, Topcar, a dealer for Seat, posted 1.05 million euros in turnover in the first nine months and estimates its turnover for 2005 at 1.4 million euros, an increase of 68% on last year. Topcar has sold 203 of the 270 Seat units estimated for this year. It plans to sell 350 cars in 2006.

"A number of important factors arose on the market, leading to an increase in sales. Firstly, the behaviour of the people in Cluj has changed radically, and they are now looking for quality. Secondly, there was the boom of the automotive market, caused by the relative drop in the prices of imported products and the increase in average incomes. The third decisive factor was the government''s renewal programme for its fleet of cars, which drove our sales up by 10%," explained Dragos Birlea, chief executive of Compexit Group. transilvania@zf.ro
