Foods importer Nordic Impex, whose business stands at more than 36 million euros, estimates sales of Costa D'Oro olive oil to go up by over 36% this year, as a result of rising consumption. "Last year we saw the volume of olive oil sold increase by more than 20% compared with the previous year; sales were helped by many promotional campaigns, as well as through promotion in the media and on TV. We estimate at least 30% in sales increase in 2008," stated Liliana Dobre, the company's marketing manager. The local olive oil market is currently very fragmented, with more than 30 brands available on store shelves at the end of 2007. Each brand, however, can be available in three versions. The Costa D'Oro brand has been part of Nordic Impex portfolio since 2002. The company accounts for 30% of the olive oil market, and competes with Italian brands Monini, Rivano, Mazza and with Spornic and Floriol brands. "The sales of Costa D'Oro account for a significant share of our company's turnover, and are on the rise both because of the expansion of major international chains and especially because of our own national distribution," the company official says.
