Rompetrol Gas to double LPG market share in 5 years

18.06.2007, 18:19 15

Rompetrol Gas, the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) division of the petroleum group Rompetrol, intends to become one of the market's leaders by tripling its presence on the autogas market and through a 10% increase in its gas cylinder distribution outlets.
"Five years from now, by accelerating our investments we expect to reach a minimum market share of 15% on the retail sector. For the time being, the growth will be organic," stated Toma Veron, general manager of Rompetrol Gas. The company representative refused to comment on information circulating on the market that Rompetrol Gas was interested in acquiring Crimbo Gas, controlled by Cristian Borcea, one of the shareholders of Dinamo football club, or on other possible acquisitions.
The LPG division of the Rompetrol group was set up at the end of July 2006 and originates from LPG, a business that was separated from Rompetrol Logistics. The decision was made chiefly because of the market's visible upward trend, in particular on the LPG segment, amid an increase in the number of cars using the fuel.
"Last year, we held a 6% market share and this year we estimate we will hold 7% of the market, taking into consideration the volume of investments planned for the retail segment," says the company representative. This year's investment budget will be published after approval from the company's shareholders.
"Currently we own 6,000 gas cylinder outlets throughout the whole country and we intend to increase this number by 10%. Regarding autogas, we want to triple the number of distribution outlets, both through investments in new stations and also through third parties. We currently operate 20 autogas distribution outlets, but intend to have 60 by the end of the year," says Veron. Overall, the market consists of three segments: autogas, small bulk and gas cylinders.
Rompetrol Gas anticipates 34 million-euro turnover for this year, up 10% compared with the six months in operation in 2006.
