Ruukki profits from growth in residential building market

18.10.2005, 19:54 14

The domestic branch of Finnish group Ruukki, an importer of metallic cover systems, is expecting an 80% leap in turnover this year, from the 4.5 million euros seen in 2004.

"This surge will be due to the higher amount of residential construction works, as well as the rebranding process we started last year," says Mariana Parvan, marketing manager with Ruukki Romania.

Rannila, Gasell, Rautaruukki, Asva and Fundia - the companies of the Finnish Rautarukki group - united under the name of Ruukki in September 2004. The market for metallic covers, put by company representatives at a yearly 70 million euros, this year grew by 10% in terms of volume to 10 million square metres. At the same time, the price per square metre of metallic tile this year increased by around 10%. "Given the current tendency of the market we operate on, we foresee a possible expansion in terms of investing in local production capacity," says Parvan.

The company estimates its share of the metallic cover systems market to be 15%. At present, Ruukki Romania employs 37 people. The company is based in Bucharest but has operational centres in Timisoara, Iasi, Brasov, Cluj and Constanta.

Ruukki began operating in Romania in 2000 with imports of tall trapezoidal profiles and metallic tiles for roofs. In 2001, Rannila Romania was founded in Brasov, followed a year later by Gasell Profil. Both companies delivered parts, complete systems and metallic solutions. Its main competitors on the metallic tile market are Lindab (Sweden), Megaprofil (Belgium), Plannja (Sweden), Rova and Kami (Sweden).
