03.07.2008, 18:48 11

Spanish law firm Garrigues has officially entered the Romanian market via a merger with Mares & Asociatii, a medium-sized firm. "We will operate under the name Garrigues Romania, and will focus on Spanish and Portuguese investors with operations on the local market. We also target American companies with operations in the region," said Mihai Mares, founder of Mares & Asociatii, who, following the merger, was appointed partner of the Spanish firm. Mares (31), laid the foundations of the law firm in 2006, with the team currently consisting of 10 lawyers, amid plans to double it in 2008. Garrigues is the largest Spanish law firm, and employs 2,000 lawyers, and was founded in 1941, according to company information. "We have been working with Mares & Asociatii for a while now, and the merger has been a natural step," said Jaime Fuster, a Garrigues partner in charge of regional expansion.
