Spar, 1.5m euros for the first store

Dutch operator Spar has opened its first supermarket in Romania, in Arad, following investments worth 1.5 million euros, and is planning to open another 5 outlets in the next three months. Spar store chain will by yearend include seven units, and by the end of next year is likely to be present in 27 locations. The Dutch group has recently taken over the Diskont supermarket chain of Alba Iulia, with the three Diskont stores to be turned into Spar supermarkets this autumn. The operator will further expand in Romania next year, by opening more than 20 outlets. The Dutch group will bring several units onto the domestic market, planning to open supermarkets and hypermarkets first. Spar operations are run by the former head of Profi network, Frenchman Rino Tizzanini.
