Tarnava: Textile market to resume growth

16.03.2007, 19:30 8

Sighisoara-based Tarnava, a local producer of textile clothing, estimates an approximately 4.8 million-euro turnover for this year, accounting for a 3.7% increase in financial indicators against 2006. "The trend seen in the turnover will be largely influenced by the fluctuation of labour, the variation of the exchange rate, the increase in the share of production for the domestic market and of export orders at higher prices. We believe we can rely on a positive trend in the domestic textile clothing market starting this year, although just 15% of the clothing sold in our country is locally produced," Cecilia Hancu, general manager of the company, told ZF. Export accounts for some 80% of Tarnava's total turnover. Last year, the company opened new stores in Cluj-Napoca, Targu-Mures, Brasov, Sibiu, Bistrita, Alba-Iulia, and a store in the German city of Stuttgart. Company investments in 2006 included the acquisition of new embroidery machines increasing production capacities, with this year's development plans including the opening of two new stores in Bucharest. "We want to sustain our profitability on the market after Romania's accession to the European Union, by making goods to order for our foreign clients and by continuing semi-contract work for Western European countries," says Cecilia Hancu.
